Fall Production of Far
Away Set for Homecoming
Week at ICC
The ICC
Theatre Department and
Student Repertory
presents a remarkable
hour of theater in “Far
Away,” by Caryl
Churchill, from October
9-12 under the direction
of ICC Theatre Professor
Jon Sidoli.
In just
60 minutes, “Far Away”
asks profound questions
about the consequences
of conformity, conflict
and the future of
society, and stretches
our notions of what
theatre can be. “Far
Away” draws disturbingly
on our recent memories
of conflict and combines
this with an Alice in
Wonderland-fantasy world
in which the familiar is
made strange and the
strange, familiar.
As a
bucolic past slips far
away, a dystopian future
is seen as, perhaps,
not so far away.
Marked as always by
Churchill's brilliant
and evocative language,
the play climaxes in one
of the most remarkable
soliloquies in modern
theatre.
Director
Jon Sidoli states “Ms.
Churchill is one the
most original and
brilliant playwrights of
this era. We are
thrilled to offer our
students the opportunity
to delve into her work
and also to bring a
rare, cutting-edge
theatrical experience to
the Independence
community.”
Curtain time is 7:30
p.m. Thursday through
Saturday October 9-11,
and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday
October 12, at the
William Inge Theatre.
Admission is $5 for
adults and $2 for
students, with ICC
students and staff
free. It is recommended
for teens and above.
