ICC
set to Join the Fun at
‘Independence Goes Back
to School’
The Pirates will be on
board for Wednesday’s
back to school
extravaganza at
Riverside Park. The USD
446 event, Independence
Goes Back to School, is
scheduled for August 13th
from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at
the park for all
students returning to
school this fall.
“We’re so excited to be
a part of this annual
celebration,” said Lori
Shaw, ICC Foundation
Director and sponsor of
the college
participation. “When we
heard about the
wonderful work the local
school system was doing
to make this event
happen again, we
couldn’t help but
volunteer to be a part
of it. We’re a
community and what a
wonderful way to
celebrate our students
going back to school; no
matter what grade!”
ICC featured events
include the Pirate Cheer
Squad, under the
leadership of Head Cheer
and Dance Coach Tia
Leach, will be passing
out Pirate beads and
offering face painting.
Coach Elzie Anderson
will have the Pirate

host a ball toss game
with students. Both
groups will be available
for photos with
students.
The ICC Ambassadors,
with Admissions Director
Sally Ciufulescu, will
be distributing free ICC
balloons and popcorn and
the Foundation will host
a table for ICC alumni
to sign up for the
alumni newsletters.
