Advanced Acting Class for Youth to Begin at Inge Center

Acting classes for youth now available at Independence Community College

Young performers with onstage experience can explore the craft of acting at an advanced level, as the William Inge Center for the Arts offers an Advanced Acting Class for Youth for the first time in the Youth Theatre Studio at Independence Community College.

The course runs for eight Saturdays, starting Sat. Feb. 18th, from 10:30a.m. to noon in the Black Box Theater in the Fine Arts Building at the ICC campus; classes will be under the direction of Meagan Moore.

“We are fortunate to have many outstanding opportunities for youth to participate in stage events in our region, so this course is designed to investigate higher-level acting skills,” said Ms. Moore “for youth who have had some substantive previous experience on stage, such as summer youth programs, church events, or previous participation in classes offered by the Youth Theatre Studio at the Inge Center.”

“The course will still emphasize theater education in a fun and interactive way, while adding emphasis on applying fundamental theories about acting,” Ms. Moore said.

The age range for students is 9-16.

Meagan Moore has been involved in multiple professional projects with the Inge Center, ICC Theater Department, and Neewollah productions for a number of years. She directed several children's musicals through Four County Mental Health, where she was formerly a children's case manager.

In January 2017, she started a new job as Special Projects Coordinator for the Inge Center.  Ms. Moore is an ICC Theater alumnus, who went on to study theater at Stephens College and completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at Pittsburg State University. She resides in Cherryvale with her husband, Alex, and daughter, Evie.

The fee is $ 100 for the 8 classes.  Enrollment can be made in person at the Inge Center office, or by contacting Terri Barbera by phone at (620) 332-5491 or via e-mail to info@ingecenter.org.

The William Inge Center for the Arts at Independence Community College offers quality year-round educational and artistic programming.  It is best known as sponsor of the annual William Inge Theater Festival, the Official State Theater Festival of Kansas.  The 36th annual Inge Festival will run April 19-22, 2017.
