We're changing the Successful Entrepreneur program to be more convenient and flexible for our participants.  Classes we are offering this spring (2010) starting mid-January are:

Introduction to Entrepreneurship (3 credit hours, on line/hybrid)

This course introduces the student and aspiring entrepreneur to the many elements of the entrepreneurial process required to be a successful small business owner; elements in addition to a particular skill, ability or passion the entrepreneur may possess.  Upon completion, participants will know whether to pursue their passions as small business owners or as employees working for others.  Those wishing to forge ahead with starting their own business will have a good introduction to the many skills and elements required to run a successful small business.

Online component - Independently explore the online content from a small business set up work book.  Activities and exercises cover an introductory look at what is required to set up and run a successful small business.

Classroom component – During monthly class meetings, the instructor reinforces the online content and provides additional information in facilitated lectures, presentations, and discussion. Guest speakers, including local entrepreneurs, share the lessons they've learned as a result of starting and operating a small business.

Planning the Entreneurial Venture (3 credit hours, on line/hybrid)

Increases knowledge of entrepreneurship and provides for the development of a plan for a start-up venture. This course is for those that are ready to plan a small business venture and includes the creation of the business plan.  This program offers blended-learning components:

 Online component - Independently explore the online content filled with concepts, examples, online activities, and audio and video clips featuring successful entrepreneurs, progress checks, and links to additional resources.

 Classroom component – During monthly class meetings, instructor reinforces the online content and provides additional information in facilitated lectures, presentations, and discussion. Guest speakers, including local entrepreneurs, share the lessons they've learned as a result of starting and operating a small business.

 

Small Business Web (3 credit hours, on line/hybrid)

Attracting new customers through a pleasing and well organized web site must now be part of everyone’s marketing plan.  Today’s customers want to learn about you and your company, at any time, through your web site.  Many expect to be able to purchase your products through your web site.  In this course, you’ll develop your web site, including all the features to attract and retain customers as well as the functionality to take orders and sell products.  This program offers blended-learning components:

Online component - Independently explore the online content through working with the web maintenance tool on your prototype web site and a work book covering the ins and outs of making your web site useful to visitors and customers as well as attractive to Internet search engines.  You'll also use Adobe Photo Shop Elements to prepare images for web display.

Classroom component – During monthly class meetings, the instructor reinforces the online content and provides additional information in facilitated lectures, presentations, and discussion. Guest speakers, including local Internet entrepreneurs, share the lessons they have learned from starting and operating a web based business or business component of their existing business.
