Position Announcement

The William Inge Center for the Arts Theatre Department at Independence Community College is seeking applications for a Technical Director/Production Manager.  ICC is located in southeast Kansas and serves approximately 3000 full- and part-time students each year.  ICC is home each year to the renowned annual William Inge Theatre Festival, as well as year-round programming through the Inge Center for the Arts, and a fast-growing, two-year, Theatre Training Program.

Position Summary

The college is seeking a team-oriented professional for Technical Director/Production Manager.  This position works closely with the Inge Center and the Theatre Department and provides support for the Fine Arts Department. Duties include scheduling, budgeting, ordering, drafting, building scenery and overseeing light hanging and other technical duties as related to theatre. The TD/PM works with paid and volunteer students to manage the technical needs of all events in the theatre and maintains a strong commitment to health and safety procedures. Responsibilities include execution of all technical and design aspects of Inge Center theatre productions and all technical and scheduling aspects of the William Inge Theatre and all persons using the theatre to accommodate their technical needs.

In addition here is the opportunity to teach Stagecraft, Theatre Appreciation and a Design course in an area of expertise. Other technical courses may be available to be taught depending on qualifications. Professional development opportunities are available.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Technical Direction required with related concentration in either Stage Management or Design. BA and professional experience considered. Experience as an instructor at the college level and previous experience as Technical Director or Assistant Technical Director preferred.  Background knowledge of CAD software and/or similar software preferred.

Position Information

The Technical Theatre Director is a 12-month, staff position with benefits.  The director reports to the Chair of the Fine Arts Division and the Dean of Instruction.  Salary is commensurate with experience and credentials.

Job Description

Technical Director/Production Manager

William Inge Center for the Arts Theatre Department at ICC 

The Technical Director/Production Manager will be under the supervision of the Dean of Instruction (Chief Academic Officer) and the Fine Arts Division Chairperson at Independence Community College.  Employment requires that one will develop, maintain and enhance theater offerings and will also help to fulfill the mission objectives and strategies of the College.  This is a 12 month position.

Primary Responsibilities

1.        Demonstrate commitment to the Inge Center Theatre and Fine Arts departments in conjunction with community offerings by providing a positive work environment.

2.        Provide technical and design assistance for effectiveness of overall management in all performances and production events of the William Inge Theater.

3.        Plan, budget and oversee theatre improvements.

4.        Recruit students for the Inge Center program offerings.

5.        Exhibit fiscal responsibility when assisting the Fine Arts’ Chair and the Dean of Instruction in budget development and implementation.

6.        Supervise student stagecraft construction and productions.

7.        Network with staff and support the Inge Center for the Arts endeavors.

8.        Display control necessary to deliver instructional programs in an efficient manner to provide access to quality learning experiences.

9.        Give input into the college’s structural shared governance and supportive activities

10.     Work with instructors and college personnel to promote the Inge Center and the Theatre and Fine Arts Division and its activities.

11.     Keep regular shop and office hours.

12.     Accept duties as assigned.

8.        Show willingness and ability to assist in development of new programming (including fund development and recruitment).

9.        Demonstrate knowledge and willingness to advance practices in electronic media.

10.     Present expertise in content area and keep abreast of advancements in the domain of technical theater.

Specific Qualifications

1.        Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Technical Direction required with related concentration in either Design or Stage Management. BA with professional experience considered.

2.        Previous professional experience a plus.

3.        Experience as an instructor at the college level and previous experience as Technical Director or Assistant Technical Director preferred.

4.        Background knowledge of CAD software and/or similar software preferred.

5.        An educational philosophy in alignment with a small, rural comprehensive community college.
