Position Announcement

Independence Community College is seeking applications for the position of  Residence Hall Coordinator.  Independence Community College, a small, rural, residential community college in southeast Kansas, serves approximately 3000 full- and part-time students each year and has initiated continuous quality improvement through the AQIP accreditation process.

Position Summary

The college is seeking a Residence Hall Coordinator who will assist with the college’s residence life program and new student orientation.  This will not be a live-in position, but will require participation in an on-call rotation with the Director of Student Life.  This position will plan hall programs, assist with administrative tasks, and be the primary contact for resident’s concerns.  The Residence Hall Coordinator will also work to establish a Residence Hall Association which they will advise.  This position will be required to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends.

Qualifications

Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s preferred.  A minimum of one year experience in student housing is strongly preferred.  Experience will be provided through on-the-job training.

Position Information

Full-time, 12-month position.  Salary is commensurate with experience and has a benefits package; and includes a two-bedroom apartment in the college’s 5-year old residence hall, a 19-meal per week board package (while the cafeteria is open), participation in the institution’s retirement program, health insurance, and vacation and sick leave.

Job Description

Residence Hall Coordinator

The Residence Hall Coordinator will assist with the college’s residence life program and new student orientation.  This will not be a live-in position but will require participation in an on-call rotation with the Director of Student Life.  This position will plan hall programs, assist with administrative tasks, and be the primary contact for resident’s concerns.  The Residence Hall Coordinator reports to the Director of Student Life.

Scope of Work

1.      Assist in directing a comprehensive residence life program housing up to 266 traditional-aged students in the college’s new residence hall and its smaller honors units; on a daily basis.

2.      Share on-call responsibility with Director of Student Life, every two weeks or as established.

3.      Help oversee the college’s student judicial system in cooperation with the Dean of Student Services and the Director of Student Life, on a daily basis.

4.      Oversee a comprehensive series of hall programming for residential students; on a bi-weekly or monthly basis.

5.      Assist with planning and implementation of New Student Orientation; as determined by schedules already established.

6.      Assist with the development of the Student Handbook; annually.

7.      Assist with the development of the Residence Hall Guidebook; annually.

8.      Assist in the development of forms and processes; annually or as needed.

9.      Advise the Residence Hall Association; on a weekly basis.

10.  Assist in creating information brochures and flyers; on an as needed basis.

11.  Assist in the planning of educational programming; on a monthly basis

12.  Ability to participate in AQIP meetings, as requested.

13.  Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1.      Must have experience and education related to the scope of work and essential functions of the job. 

2.      Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s preferred.

3.      Experience as a Resident Assistance or similar position is strongly preferred.

4.      Must espouse a collaborative work ethic and a philosophy of higher education that is compatible with the mission of a comprehensive community college.
