Position Announcement

Independence Community College is seeking applications for the position of  Recruiting/Admissions Specialist.  Independence Community College, a small, rural, residential community college in southeast Kansas, serves approximately 3000 full- and part-time students each year and has initiated continuous quality improvement through the AQIP accreditation process.

Position Summary

The college is seeking a Recruiting/Admissions Specialist who will assist the Director of Admissions in the development and implementation of a college-wide recruitment plan at ICC. The Recruiting/Admissions Specialist will build relationships with perspective students through visitations and follow-up correspondence at area high schools, local businesses, and in the community.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred. Associate’s degree required with experience related to the position summary.  Experience in related work may be substituted. Strong communication and interpersonal skills is a must.  The Recruiting/Admissions Specialist should have experience related to the scope of work and essential functions in this job description and be Computer knowledge is essential, with experience working with a computer student information system (e.g., AS400) preferred. The Specialist must espouse a collaborative work ethic and a philosophy of higher education that is compatible with the mission of a comprehensive community college.

Position Information

The Recruiting/Admissions Specialist reports to the Director of Admissions and Dean of Student Services and is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits.  The position requires some evening/weekend work with travel including day trips and occasional overnight stays.  Salary range is commensurate with experience and credentials.

Job Description

Recruiting/Admissions Specialist 

The Independence Community College (ICC) Recruiting/Admissions Specialist, as part of the Student Services Team, will perform a wide variety of duties under the direction of the Director of Admissions.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Visit all assigned high schools for the purpose of recruitment of students for ICC, with follow-up correspondence (daily, depending on dates that recruitment schedule is set).
  2. Visit all assigned College Planning Conferences to promote ICC.  (Daily during October and November).
  3. Visit local businesses and/or community functions for the purpose of recruiting students; as needed.
  4. Assist in the development and implementation of a college-wide recruitment plan to meet college and community needs; monthly.
  5. Meet with and provide initial academic advisement for first-time, full-time students at ICC following the institutional placement policy; daily.
  6. Participate in professional admissions associations; yearly.
  7. Assist with the advisement of the ICC Student Ambassador program, daily.
  8. Be a team player and work in a team environment within the Student Services Department; daily.
  9. Assist in the development and implementation of recruiting procedures.

  10. Maintain accurate student records in cooperation with the Registrar; daily.
  11. Assist with drops/adds and advisement of part-time students; daily.
  12. Assist in advising International students, as needed.
  13. Assist in maintaining accurate records with international admissions including SEVIS; daily.
  14. Assist with COMPASS testing; daily.
  15. Responsible for accurate and timely data entry into AS400 including test scores, high school transcripts, applications for admissions and contact cards; daily.
  16. Perform additional duties as assigned; daily.

  2. Clarity of thought and expression in oral and written communications.

  3. Ability to utilize time management skills in work, timeliness of reports and communications.

  4. High degree of organizational skills.  Able to manage multiple deadlines, tasks, projects, and assignments.

  5. Ability to handle stressful situations and overlapping priority demands.

  6. Electronic media literacy; work requires excellent computer skill with great accuracy in input.

  7. Ability and willingness to work in cross-divisional settings.

  8. Availability for travel short trips to school visits in the service area on a regular basis and longer recruitment trips.

  9. Collaborative, collegial, and responsible work habits; high degree of ethical standards, including adherence to general rules of safety, college procedures and fair labor standards.

  10. A commitment to high professional standards, including professional growth.

  11. Requires knowledge to accomplish comprehensive tasks utilizing established policies and procedures.

  12. Requires the ability to apply the principles, practices and methods of a professional or administrative field to recurring projects.

  13. Responsiveness to leadership.
  14. Serve as an effective ambassador for the college at all times.

Specific Qualifications

  2. Ability to work flexible work schedule to meet department needs.
  3. Ability to drive and a valid driver’s license.

  4. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
