Part-time Pirate Cove Academy Teacher

Independence Community College (ICC) seeks applications for the position of Childcare Teacher.   Independence Community College, a small, rural, residential community college in southeast Kansas, serving the needs of full/part-time students and student athletes, has initiated continuous quality improvement through the AQIP accreditation process.

 

Position Summary

 

The Part-time Pirate Cove teacher manages and facilitates all childcare activities within the appointed unit, in which he or she is assigned. The teacher gathers data and paperwork, providing accurate information; and works with the Daycare Director to ensure site compliance with state and federal childcare guidelines and college policies and procedures; collaborates with the Early Childhood Education instructor to plan and conduct meaningful teaching experiences for the children. 

 

Qualifications

 

The teacher must have experience and education related to the scope of work and essential functions of this job. An Associate’s Degree in early childhood education or related field is preferred.  Childcare supervision is required with six months of teaching experience in a licensed child care center or preschool.

Job Description

The part-time Childcare Teacher is a twelve-month position and supervises and facilitates childcare activities within the unit in which he or she is assigned.  Childcare classes include toddlers, two-and-a-half years and school age children.  This position reports to and works with the Lead Teacher for the success of the unit.  The Pirate Cove Academy Day Care is under the leadership of the Child Care Director.

 

Primary Responsibilities

 

Responsibilities for the Toddler Units

  1. Keep daily record of eating and diapering on each child.
  2. Meet the physical needs and emotional well being of children in their care.
  3. Plan and conduct age appropriate activities that promote various learning experiences.
  4. Maintain a clean and safe unit.
  5. Establish a good relationship with parents and communicate daily with the parents about their child.

 

Responsibilities for the 2 ˝ to School Age Units

  1. Meet the physical needs and emotional well being of children in their care.
  2. Plan and conduct age appropriate activities that promote various learning experiences.
  3. Maintain a clean and safe unit.
  4. Establish a good relationship with parents and communicate daily with them about their child.

 

General Qualifications

 

1.       Timeliness of reports and communications.

2.       Collaborative and responsible work habits.

3.       High degree of ethical standards, including adherence to general rules of safety, procedures, and fair labor standards.

4.       Clarity of thought and expression in oral and written communications.

5.       Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

9.       Serve as an ambassador for the college and childcare center at work and in the community.

 

Specific Qualifications

 

1.       The teacher must have experience and education related to the scope of work and essential functions of this job.

2.       Associate’s degree in early childhood education or related field is preferred.

3.       Must pass KBI/SRS screening.

4.       Recent physical is required (may transfer information from previous childcare employer).

5.       First aid training preferred prior to employment or may be completed immediately after hiring.

6.       Tuberculin test, prior to employment.

7.       Ability to lift 50 lbs. without limitations required.

8.       Ability to drive and valid driver’s license.
