Part-Time Bookstore Assistant

 

Independence Community College is seeking applications for a Part-time Bookstore Assistant.  Independence Community College is located in southeast Kansas and serves approximately 3000 full- and part-time students each year through its programs, courses, and services.

Position Summary

The Part-time Bookstore Assistant will perform a wide variety of tasks associated with Bookstore operations including sales and marketing, stock and inventory, along with support and managerial services in the absence of the supervisor.  The Bookstore Assistant will work under the direction of the Bookstore Supervisor and the direction of the Chief Information & Facility Officer.

Qualifications

Qualifications for this position include strong communication and organization skills, retail experience, and strong work ethic.

Position Information

Part-time hourly position.  Salary is commensurate with experience and/or education.

Job Description

The Part-Time Bookstore Assistant will perform a variety of activity support services for the College Bookstore under the direction of the Bookstore Supervisor and the Fiscal Officer.  Job functions include sales and marketing, stock and inventory, reports and fiscal responsibilities along with support and managerial services in the absence of the supervisor.

Primary Responsibilities

1.       Perform a wide variety of bookstore work and responsible for assisting with sales operations, purchasing, marketing and reporting of related matters.

2.       Assist with purchasing and inventory of supplies, materials, books and miscellaneous, shelving and storage activities and related reports.  Responsible for textbook returns and related reports.

3.       Prepare purchase orders, and forms for a smooth efficient bookstore operation.

4.       Keep shelves stocked/restocked in a timely fashion.

5.       Assist in providing bookstore services to College Outreach Centers, Admissions, Athletics and Instructional Services.

6.       Provide managerial services in the absence of the supervisor.

7.       Perform routine bookstore service responsibilities and related work, and understand college methods, rules and policies: establish and maintain cooperative relationships with staff, students, and the general public through bookstore activities.

 

General Responsibilities

  1. Ability to effectively perform routine Bookstore services.
  2. Knowledge of computers and programs.
  3. Time management and organizational skills.
  4. Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.

Qualifications

1.       High School degree or equivalent.

2.       Availability to work flexible schedule during peak periods and in the absence of the Supervisor.

3.       Clarity of thought and expression in oral and written communication and the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff and community.

4.       Responsible work habits with a high degree of ethical standards, including adherence to general rules for safety and procedures and a commitment to high professional standards.
