Independence Community College is seeking applications for the position of Director of Cosmetology Training and Services. Independence Community College, a small, rural, residential community college in southeast Kansas, serves approximately 3000 full- and part-time students each year and has initiated continuous quality improvement through the AQIP accreditation process. |

Position Summary |
||
The college is seeking a team-oriented professional for the position of Director of Cosmetology Training and Services. The Director is responsible for the daily operations of the training center and public salon while to preparing vocational students in the arts of Cosmetology, Cosmetology Instruction, and Onychology. The Director insures a positive learning environment, serves as a professional role model, recruits students, is responsive to student learning styles and maintains retention through advisement. The Director will guide students through the program completion and preparation for the Kansas Board of Cosmetology exams for licensure as Cosmetologists, Cosmetology Instructors, and Nail Techs. |

Current Kansas Board of Cosmetology license and completion of Cosmetology Instructor training along with demonstrated business management skills are minimal requirements for this position. An Associate’s Degree, or plan for completion, is required. Bachelor’s degree is preferred. Community college experience preferred and experience with alternative technological delivery systems is beneficial. |

Job Description Director of Cosmetology Training and Services The Director will be under the supervision of the Dean of Instruction (Chief Academic Officer) at Independence Community College. Employment requires that one will develop, maintain and enhance outcome-based educational opportunities for vocational learners to fulfill the mission objectives and strategies of the College. Primary Responsibilities 1. Provide a positive training environment for students by being receptive to various learning modalities and by being committed to ICC student success. 2. Maintain and supervise the daily operations of ICC Cosmetology department and training salon. 3. Supervise Cosmetology personnel and instructors. 4. Be available during posted office hours for student advisement and academic assistance in order to encourage retention, continuity, and progress in coursework and programs. 5. Exhibit responsibility for development and publication of the instruction content of outcome-based learning programs with emphasis on needs of diversified learners (includes preparing lesson plans for required text, monitoring students in a clinical setting, professional supervision of classroom and clinic floor and ensuring that students follow proper procedures.) 6. Responsible for budget development, implementation and control necessary to deliver instructional programs in an efficient and effective manner provide access and quality learning experiences. 7. Keep inventory in line with clientele needs and budget availability. 8. Maintain and enhance teaching excellence through ongoing professional development by participation in in-service training, workshops, seminars, and publication. 9. Provide input into the college’s structural shared governance through involvement in committees, councils and supportive activities related to the development and enhancement of the college’s mission and strategies. 10. Work with instructors and college personnel to promote ICC programs and curricula offerings. 11. Recruit students for ICC and for the cosmetology and all programs associated with the department. 12. Serve as professional role model; provide essential guidance and instruction pertaining to work ethics, professional demeanor, and the quest to excel. 13. Advocate the expediency for program completion in order for students to take the Kansas Board of Cosmetology exams for licensure as Cosmetologists, Cosmetology Instructors, Onychology (Nail Technicians) and any other program offered in the department. General Qualifications 1. Complete reports and communications in a timely manner for internal and external agencies. 2. Illustrate clarity of thought and expression in oral and written communications. 3. Exemplify the ability to work with a diverse student population. 4. Validate responsible work habits through collaborative and collegial social interactions. 5. Adhere to general rules of safety, procedures, fair labor standards and ethical job standards. 6. Provide outcome-based assessments and follow-ups with the instructional team. 7. Willingness and ability to develop new programming with fund development and recruitment. 8. Present expertise in content area and keep abreast of advancements in the domain of cosmetology; impart knowledge to others. 9. Communicate effectively with sensitivity to learning styles and developmental needs. Specific Qualifications 1. Content area expertise in assigned field and an interest in imparting knowledge to others. 2. Current licensure and certification by Current Kansas Board of Cosmetology as Cosmetologist, Cosmetology Instructor Certification and Nail Technician certification required. 3. Associate’s Degree, or educational plan with 15 or fewer credit hours to completion, required, Bachelor’s degree preferred. 4. Demonstrated business management skills. 5. Community college and experience in alternative course delivery systems preferred.
