Minimum Technical Requirements for Online Courses

 

The following are recommended hardware and software requirements necessary for a quality interactive learning experience:
 

Blackboard Compatibility Issues in Windows Vista

The Windows Vista operating system has not yet been certified or established to be compatible with Blackboard. Students and Faculty members who do decide to upgrade to Vista at this point may encounter some issues. You might consider downloading and installing the Mozilla Firefox browser.

Windows 98, Windows 2000 or Windows XP

OS 9.2, OS X.1 or OS X.2

Processor:

Pentium II or higher
Processor speed of 233 MHz or higher.

G3 or higher

Memory/RAM:

Minimum of 64 MB RAM.

Storage

Both platforms need the ability to save work
(to Floppy, USB Flash Drive, Zip, CD RW, Hard Drive, etc.)

Display:

800 x 600 pixel resolution @ 256 colors

Printer:

You must have access to a printer

Audio/Video:

Sound card and speakers or headset;
a microphone may be required in some courses

Internet Connection:

56K modem
A broadband connection is recommended (DSL, cable, etc.)

Plug-ins:

Plug-ins (Apple Quicktime, Macromedia Flash, Adobe Acrobat Reader)

Others may be required

Web browser:

Internet Explorer 5 or higher, Firefox, or Netscape 4.77 or above. (Java and cookies must be enabled in your browser).

Other:

An e-mail account and a word processing software program.
Anti-virus software is highly recommended

Your professor may have additional hardware and software requirements. For example, the Computer Concepts and Applications course requires Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Word 2003, Microsoft Excel 2003, Microsoft PowerPoint 2003, and Microsoft Access 2003.
