The Independence Community College track team participated at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois on March 4 and 5 for the NJCAA National Indoor Track and Field Championships.

LaShawn Vaughns captured All-American status in the 60m dash by placing 5th with a running time of 7.76, breaking the previous record held by Dionne Prince which was 8.15.  She also anchored the 4th place 4x400 meter relay team; during the race she covered a lot of ground and she ran down the nearest competitor.

The 4x400m relay team consisted of Christina Granville, Thelma Reeves, LaKetha Green and Vaughns. They ran 4:04:66 which shattered the previous record of 4:40:14 by 36 seconds. Thelma Reeves also achieved All-American status in the 800m run. Reeves placed 5th with a time of 2:24:22 which broke the school record in the 800m.

Vaughns and Reeves have been the two most consistent women on the Lady Pirate Track Team. The hard work of Vaughns and Reeves paid off during the indoor season, as both were crowned All-American twice.
