Pushes Win Streak to 10 games
Parsons,
KS-
The Independence Pirates won their 10th consecutive contest with a 91-70 victory
over the Labette Cardinals. Independence opened the game off with a pair
of three point baskets from the Rowe brothers. Donald connected on the
first one from the corner and Daniel rattled one in moments later. With
the 6-0 lead, Labette called a quick time-out.
From that point on, ICC would get in
quite a bit of foul trouble. Seven players had at least 2 fouls and the
bench played a big role in maintaining the Pirates defensive energy level.
ICC earned everything they got in the first half, and despite Labette shooting
18/22 from the foul line, led 42-32 going into halftime behind some hot shooting
from downtown. ICC connected on 7/12 three point baskets in the first
half.
In the second half, ICC jumped to a
50-34 lead and appeared to be in control. Labette got the hot hand from
deep at that point and connected on 4 three point baskets over a two minute
stretch to narrow the lead to 53-46 with 13:57 left to play.
With 10:41 remaining and ICC still
ahead 61-54, Antonio Hanson drilled a three point shot from deep to lead a 9-2
run. ICC would watch its lead balloon to a 82-61 advantage and from that
point on, it was smooth sailing. ICC ended the contest with a 91-70
victory.
Antonio Hanson led the way with 21
points. Daniel Rowe followed with 16, Mekan Moss added 15, and Michael
Craion scored 12. James Bush led the Pirates with 9 rebounds. Hanson
led the way for ICC with 7 assists and 4 steals.
ICC travels to Ft. Scott, KS to take on
the Greyhounds Saturday afternoon at 4 pm.
