Former Pirate Selected by Cubs!
Former Independence Pirate
Jon Nagel was selected by
the Chicago Cubs in the 17th round of the first year
player draft on Friday. Nagel was 2-2 with a 2.86 ERA,
while striking out 23 hitters in 22 innings for the
Pirates this spring. His season was ended early
with an arm injury as he only made 7 appearences and 3
conference starts. Nagel is the second Pirate
pitcher to be drafted in as many years, as RHP
Josh Beal was selected by
the Cincinnati Reds last June.

Unanimous Selection For 1st Team All Conference
Catcher!
Independence Pirates
Catcher Trent Owens
recieved 1st team all-conference honors in unanimous
fashion as voted on by the Jahawk Conference East
coaches. Owens finished his sophmore season
batting .382 with 13 Dbl's, 6 HR's and 51 RBI.
Also earning all-conference honors were outfielder
Steffon Williams and
Secondbaseman Vince Pironti,
who were both selected to the 2nd team.
Jon Nagel was voted
Honorable Mention as a Designated Hitter.
