Max
VanLaningham, Director of Developmental Studies
Max has a
Master’s degree in School Administration. He has coached or served
as an athletic administrator at Bethany College, Pratt Community
College, Washburn University, Dodge City Community College and
Kansas State University. He was a Board member of the National
Association of College Directors of Athletics. He served on the
initial taskforce for Competency Based Teacher Certification in
Kansas. He was the Director of Education at Norton Correctional
Facility and served as the Director of Assessment and Evaluation for
CPMI. He served as a lead instructor for Community Program
Management, Inc. in a Wichita, Kansas, Adult Basic Education and
Employability Skills program.
Max is married
to Relda. They have two sons Terry and Joey.
Daniel Fossoy – Mathematics Instructor
Dan teaches
mathematics and employability at the Independence Community College
Adult Basic Education Center. He has taught at ICC for the last
eleven years. He manages the budget for the Center. He enjoys
helping students achieve their goals.
Dan loves his
wife, a music teacher in Independence. Dan’s hobbies include
running, camping, hiking, and gardening.
Joy
Barta - English Instructor
Joy teaches the
English/Writing classes at the ICC Adult Education Success Center.
She previously taught developmental classes, and was International
Student Coordinator and Director of the ACE/Student Support Services
at ICC. She was also the Director for Educational Talent Search
program at Neosho County Community College. She has a bachelor and
masters degree from Pittsburg State University. Joy enjoys working
with students and witnessing their success in education.
Joy is married
and has 2 married sons and one grandson. She is an avid K-State
Wildcat fan; loves animals; and enjoys flower gardening, watching
and feeding birds, especially hummingbirds, swimming and traveling.
Darrel Montgomery - Reading Instructor
Darrel is the
reading instructor for the Adult Education Success Center. He has
taught for the Independence Community College for 7 years. Prior to
this position, he taught for 30 years in public education. He has a
Bachelor’s Degree in history and a Master’s Degree in educational
administration.
Elaine Kimzey - Adult Education Success Center Administrative
Assistant
Elaine serves as
the Adult Education Success Center Administrative Assistant and one
of the GED Examiners. She has been with Independence Community
College for 17 years. Ms. Kimzey has served in this capacity for
the past 7 years. She holds an Associate of Arts degree from
Independence Community College and Bachelor of Science Degree in
business administration with a major in management from Pittsburg
State University.

Laura Schaid - Data Collection Specialist and GED Examiner
Laura serves as
the Data Collection Specialist and GED Examiner for the Adult
Education Success Center. She has served Independence Community
College in this capacity for 6 years.
